General Questions

Important information regarding general questions for your West African tour.

What makes Lens of Africa Tours different?

We focus on 'seeing Africa through a deeper lens.' Unlike generic tour operators, we specialize exclusively in West Africa (Ghana, Togo, Benin) and prioritize culturally immersive experiences, luxury accommodations, and connections with local communities that most travelers never get to see.

What is the typical group size?

We believe in intimate experiences. Our small group tours typically range from 6 to 12 participants. We also specialize in completely private, tailor-made journeys for individuals, couples, and families.

Are your tours suitable for all ages?

Yes! While some of our adventure-focused itineraries require moderate physical fitness, many of our cultural and luxury tours are suitable for all ages. We can also customize itineraries specifically for families with children or travelers with mobility concerns.

Visas & Health

Important information regarding visas & health for your West African tour.

Do I need a visa for Ghana, Togo, and Benin?

Most international travelers require a visa for all three countries. We recommend applying for these well in advance. Ghana and Benin offer e-Visa systems for many nationalities. We provide detailed guidance and supporting documentation for your visa applications once you book with us.

What vaccinations are required?

A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry into Ghana, Togo, and Benin. You must carry your original 'Yellow Card' with you. We also strongly recommend consulting a travel clinic regarding malaria prophylaxis and other recommended vaccines like Hepatitis A/B and Typhoid.

Is it safe to drink the water?

We advise drinking only bottled or filtered water. During our tours, we provide ample bottled water to ensure you stay hydrated and healthy. Avoid ice in drinks unless you are in a high-end establishment that uses purified water.

Booking & Payments

Important information regarding booking & payments for your West African tour.

How do I book a tour?

You can start by browsing our Featured Tours or requesting a custom itinerary through our website. Once you're ready, we'll send you a detailed proposal. A deposit is required to secure your booking, with the balance due 60 days before departure.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard), bank transfers, and secure online payment platforms. All transactions are encrypted and secure.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made more than 60 days before departure typically incur a loss of deposit. Within 60 days, cancellation fees increase progressively. We highly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that includes 'cancel for any reason' coverage.

On the Ground

Important information regarding on the ground for your West African tour.

What currency should I bring?

Ghana uses the Ghanaian Cedi (GHS), while Togo and Benin use the West African CFA Franc (XOF). We recommend bringing USD or EUR to exchange locally. While ATMs are available in major cities, they can be unreliable, so carrying some cash is essential.

What should I pack?

Pack lightweight, breathable cotton or linen clothing. Include a light jacket for cooler evenings, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and high-quality insect repellent. If visiting traditional villages, modest attire is appreciated. Don't forget a universal power adapter (Ghana uses Type G, while Togo/Benin use Type C/E).

Is it safe to travel in West Africa?

Ghana, Togo, and Benin are known as some of the most peaceful and welcoming countries in Africa. However, like anywhere, it's important to exercise common sense. Our expert guides are with you throughout the journey to ensure your safety and help you navigate local customs smoothly.
